Pacific Point Drilling's History

Point Pacific Drilling’s legacy in specialized drilling spans over 35 years, rooted in a family tradition of construction excellence. Our story began in 1974 with Charles (Chuck) Young, who started our family business with Young’s Construction, and a second company, Chuck’s Concrete Pumping. From the very start, Chuck and his team were committed to serving Bay Area communities with the highest standards of craftsmanship.

Young’s Construction quickly flourished. However, when Chuck’s brother, Les, decided to join the construction industry, confusion soon followed when Les founded a competing company called “Young and Son’s Construction”. Chuck sought to rebrand, and after consulting with his wife Pat and their children, including Rick Young, the company was re-named Sonoma Marin Construction. This marked the beginning of a new chapter for our small business.

Rick was heavily involved with the company from the very first days of operations. By 10 years old, Rick was out laboring in the fields alongside his dad, beating concrete hoses, pulling nails, and crawling under houses. His willingness to do the hardest parts of the job was a value instilled in him since the beginning and has followed him to the present day.

In 1990, following Chuck’s passing, Rick took over the family business, which was shortly after his graduation from high school. Starting with no employees, Rick built the company from the ground up. He understood that our construction success came from a high demand for specialized work in the Bay Area, and soon came to realize that a specialized drilling company was needed, too. This company was not just needed by us, but broadly by many contractors in the area. Rick founded Point Pacific Drilling with the goal of providing specialized drilling services to all those in the Bay Area and beyond, not just homeowners. Since the 90’s, we have been providing these services to our partners, clients, and the broader California community, completing thousands of successful drilling projects—each executed with the precision, integrity, and dedication that define our legacy.
